A place to call home

I am so excited. We are a week away from moving into our new home. It oozes personality and has a sense that it’s been sprinkled with magic dust.

What a wonderful place to call home.

It’s funny isn’t it. Everyone has their own ideal home, or idea of home. To some it is space, to others it’s low maintenance, views, modern architecture, location, luxurious fittings or built-in gadgets. The ideal home is a reflection of yourself and your lifestyle.

When all is said and done, a house is just the shell and it’s the people you have around you and your worldly possessions (whatever you may choose them to be) that complete the picture. But still, there is something about a house that has a soul of its very own, living and breathing within its walls. Some are weary, some are new and need some understanding while others welcome you with open arms.

We haven’t stopped grinning since our eyes fell upon this little bungalow. Why?  Maybe it’s the shutters. Maybe it’s the picket fence. Maybe it’s the backyard full of vegetable gardens and fruit trees!  It is a 1926 original and I’m sure my blogs will be overflowing with more reasons why to come in the next few months.

Every square inch of the house has a story to tell and we can’t wait to uncover them all.  The house has only ever been on the market once, and that was when it was sold to us. It’s been owned by the same family since it was built and has seen three generations call it home. The tiny kitchen has produced tens of thousands of meals, and the garden has grown the food to feed generations decade after decade. Oh we do have great boots to fill!

The house definitely has called our name. If it were human it would have a twinkle in its eye.  There will be lots of work to do and my Englishman and I are honoured to be able to tackle them head on. There are a whole bunch of skills that we haven’t yet tried our hand at, but about to!

Wish us well! It is like walking on to the set of The Block!

I hope you enjoy the house. It certainly was special to me and my family. These last few weeks while we cleared it out and packed up my parents belongings have brought up so many memories it has been both hectic and a blessing. Have fun creating new memories in your new home.
    Angela.
