About

Julie Legg. Homesteader. DIY Enthusiast. Author. Actor. Musician. Curious Thinker.

I’m a Kiwi with an insatiable curiosity for learning and rediscovering life’s treasures. Whether it’s traditional skills like growing, cooking, preserving, or fixing, or simply embracing the best of what once was, I’m passionate about living more simply, more creatively, and more consciously.

Julie Legg, Rediscover.co.nzNestled in rural Waikato, my husband and I are on an ever-evolving journey toward greater self-reliance, with a strong focus on growing our own food and reducing waste. We’re not experts. We’re everyday doers. Sustainability, seasonality, and resourcefulness sit at the heart of everything we do, and Rediscover is where I share that journey.

So many of the skills our grandparents relied on, making, mending, preserving, and doing things for themselves, have quietly slipped away over the years. But they’re starting to make a comeback. People are beginning to crave connection, hands-on skills, and more intentional ways of living. I think there’s great wisdom in looking back, and even greater value in applying those skills to modern life.

Modern Homesteading is the thread that ties it all together. It means living intentionally, learning practical skills, and making thoughtful choices that support a slower, more grounded life. It’s not about being off-grid or perfect. It’s about doing what you can with what you have, whether that’s preserving homegrown tomatoes, fixing something instead of replacing it, or simply enjoying a handmade life.

Rediscover is my space to celebrate that way of living. You’ll find gardening tips, DIY projects, seasonal food saving ideas, and reflections on reconnecting with what matters. Inspired by a childhood rich in adventure and hands-on learning, I’m now drawing on those early experiences to live a life that feels both meaningful and joyful.

Outside the garden and workshop, I’m a published author, a musician with our recording band OLDER, an actor and voice artist. My debut non-fiction book The Missing Piece was released by HarperCollins in 2024. You can explore more of my creative work at julielegg.nz.

I also enjoy collaborating with growers, makers, and food lovers, and capturing the beauty of seasonal living through photography.

Thanks for stopping by. Don’t be a stranger. Feel free to say hello or leave a comment. I’m always up for a good chat, especially if it involves seeds, stories, or secondhand treasures.
