I love upcycling jam jars and sauce bottles. From a perfect individual serve, to a rustic vase, when they are not used for home preserves glass jars are certainly put to good use.
Of course, jam jars a perfect for reuse as ‘jam jars’. You can recycle both the jars and the lids, as long as neither are damaged or rusty. Read my post Ways to Sterilise Preserving Jars & Bottles for a variety of methods.
And before we get into the swing of upcycling, it’s easy to remove labels from glass jars!
Here are a few of my creations:
Individual serves are brilliant! Jam jars make this super-easy and, with the twist top lid, you can keep them air-tight and spoil-proof. Also hungry mouths get to practice portion control – especially with my trifle, which was much fought over.
Floating candles are lovely touch on a cold winter’s night to greet visitors at the front steps. Fill the jars to whatever water level you choose (coloured water could also look very lovely as it would enhance the ‘glow’), slide in the candle and light with a BBQ wand so you don’t get burnt fingers.
Oh how a jam jar and a small bunch of daffodils can bring spring to your kitchen, even in the middle of winter! Spotted in the supermarket, I thought it would cheer up my day without breaking the bank — until I can pick them myself roadside in just a matter of months of course!
Happy upcycling!
